Bohemian Wedding at The Queens Hotel Brighton
A wedding filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable surprises at The Queens Hotel.
Sheila & Gee reminisce:
Can you tell me about your theme if you had one, the inspiration behind it and how you incorporated it into your wedding? Ah, where to start? Well, Sheila went for a lilac theme and a bohemian vibe – think whimsical, relaxed, with just a dash of “I’ve got it all together” (and by “it”, I mean everything but the nerves).
What first drew you to your wedding venue? The Queens Hotel? Oh, what a gem. Not only does it boast the best location and views in town, but it’s also a bit of a walk down memory lane for me. I worked for the company 20 years ago, and let me tell you, it’s still as lovely as ever. We stayed in the T4 room, which offered breathtaking views and the perfect spot for some excellent people-watching – highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good snoop.
What was the atmosphere like on the big day? We were aiming for a fun-loving, carefree atmosphere, and oh boy, did we achieve that. There were tears of laughter (and a few near-tears of ‘I can’t believe I wore this suit’ moments), but the love and joy we all felt was absolutely off the charts.
How did your chosen venue go above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect? A special shout-out to John Hirons, who went above and beyond – so much so that he was practically our unofficial maid of honour. (And wedding planner, let’s be honest.) As we’re living abroad, he really took the reins – would’ve been perfect to get him in a tutu for the day, but alas, he wasn’t having any of it. Spoilsport.
Who was your chosen Photographer and why did you choose them? Hannah Brackenbury was our photographer and absolute legend. The photos captured the love, the chaos, and the general “what’s going on?” vibes of the day perfectly. And she didn’t stop there – she also performed a musical comedy set, which had us in stitches. Top marks from both us and the crowd!
What was the most memorable part of your day? As for the memorable moments, where do we even begin? But if we had to pick one, it would have to be when the fabulous Dame Dave Lynn showed up to marry us. We kept it a surprise (and clearly, it was too good of a secret). The moment she walked in, the room erupted – from shock, from laughter, from pure joy. Honestly, every wedding should come with a Dame Dave Lynn cameo. Truly unforgettable.
