With the tranquil waters of Buckler’s Hard as their backdrop, Sophie and Tom created a wedding day that perfectly blended natural beauty with the rich history of their venue.

Can you tell me about your theme if you had one, the inspiration behind it and how you incorporated it into your wedding?

We wanted to tie in some of the historical features of the venue. We had dark wood welcome signs, an old whisky barrel for our cards, and a personalised wooden signage plaque for our guests. The bridesmaids and flowers were shades of blue, to complement the water in the background.

What first drew you to your wedding venue?

We were looking for somewhere where we had the option of getting married outside, near the water. We also wanted somewhere with plenty of space for our guests to stay so that we could celebrate all weekend. The Master Builder’s was the perfect combination of picturesque scenery being in the beautiful New Forest, and sitting on the water’s edge. The historical significance was an added bonus! The extra selling point was the stunning Balthazar Cottage along Bucklers Hard, where the bridal party could get ready.

What was the atmosphere like on the big day?

The sun was shining, our guests were relaxed and there were big smiles all around. We had an acoustic band playing during our drinks reception, and we snuck up to our honeymoon suite to catch a glimpse from it up above. We looked out of the windows and just saw the joy on everyone’s faces sitting out on the terrace. We spent the whole day walking on a cloud of happiness!

How did your chosen venue go above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect?

The Master Builder’s were brilliant with their regular communication, and meetings along the way. Lizzie was the events coordinator, and she couldn’t have made us feel more special. No request or suggestion was too much. The little things went a long way… the bottomless bubbles the night before for the bridal party, the personalised The Master Builder’s teddy bear left in our honeymoon suite, and plates of canapés being kept aside for to ensure that the bride and groom were well fed!

Who was your chosen Photographer and why did you choose them?

We chose Alisa Roberts as I had seen her at a wedding and I knew I wanted to use her straight away. Her photos were incredible, and she was so passionate about getting the right shot. She gave such clear instructions, which I felt I would need on the day. Alisa clearly loves her job, and this came across. She took the time to learn all of our family/friends’ names and she felt like an extra guest on the day, partying on the dance floor whilst snapping the best candid pictures. One of our favourite parts of the day was our photoshoot along the Hard and river, we laughed the whole time.

What was the most memorable part of your day?

Walking down the aisle with my dad, and seeing the beautiful backdrop with my husband to be stood smiling under the oak tree, was a heart-stopping moment. After our wedding breakfast, we went off with our desserts and sat on the river edge, just as the two of us. We loved celebrating every moment of the day with our loved ones, but also taking the time to be together, surrounded by unbelievable scenery, was magical.  a
